Why does nobody talk about how hard it is to pick which dig to volunteer on
I had to choose between a 3 week field school in New Mexico and a local creek survey here in Ohio, and I went with the local one because I could keep my weekends free. Turns out the creek site was mostly bottle caps and one rusty horse bit, while my friend at the New Mexico dig pulled up a whole room floor in week one. How do you all weigh a sure thing nearby against a maybe-big find far away?

So you traded a possible career story for a bucket of bottle caps and a horse bit. Next time just flip a coin, at least then you can blame the coin.
