My aunt in Portland said you should never put cheese and fruit on the same plate, and now I'm torn
I was at a family BBQ in Portland two weekends ago and my aunt looked at my snack plate like I had committed a crime. She said mixing cheese and fruit is "a texture nightmare" and that each needs its own plate to be enjoyed right. But then my cousin pointed out that every fancy charcuterie board I see online has grapes right next to the brie, and people love it. I get her point about wet fruit making crackers soggy, but doesn't a little honey and apple slice on sharp cheddar just work? So what's the real rule here, keep them apart or just separate the wet stuff from the dry stuff? I need help settling this before Thanksgiving, because I'm supposed to bring the appetizer plate this year.
