Wasted 40 bucks on a melon baller that cant even handle a pear
Got this fancy stainless melon baller from a kitchen supply place in Portland last week. Thought it would be great for fruit plates. Nope. The edges are too dull to cut through a ripe pear, it just smashes the flesh. I ended up using a regular spoon for the whole party tray. Anyone else found a tool that looked cool on the shelf but totally failed on the actual snack table? What do you use for fruit shaping?
Wait, a melon baller, the tool literally named for scooping melons, was never meant to cut through a ripe pear in the first place. Those edges are thin and round on purpose so they scoop soft fruit like melon or mango, not slice through firmer stuff like pears or apples. If you want clean shapes out of a pear you'd be better off with a small paring knife or a sharp mini scoop, and maybe save the baller for the cantaloupe.
