Almost traded away my grandma's old brushes last Tuesday and caught myself just in time
Last Tuesday I pulled out a shoebox of about 40 brushes from my grandma's attic, thinking I'd swap the whole lot here for a couple tubes of ivory black. Then I noticed the handles were worn down to bare wood in the same spot on every single one, and it hit me that these were the brushes she used for 30 years. I put them back and only traded the dupes, but how do you all decide what's actually okay to let go of?
The part about the handles being worn down to bare wood in the same spot got me. That's proof of her hand, every day for 30 years, and you can't trade that for a tube of paint. My rule is if I have to stop and think about it, it stays. The stuff that's fine to let go of never makes you pause like that. You already knew the answer when you put them back.
