Half-used oil paint swap: fair trade or just dumping garbage?
Tbh, I traded a nearly full tube of burnt sienna last week for a half-used tube of ultramarine, and the other person acted like they got robbed. I looked it up and found that a new tube of that ultramarine costs $9.50 at the local art store, while my burnt sienna was maybe $6. So I get that it's not equal, but we're both saving stuff from the landfill, right? Now I'm wondering if we should set a dollar value on every half-empty tube or just trust the karma of it all. Has anyone else run into this mismatch in swaps, and how do you decide what's a fair deal?

Wait, is this swap therapy or a stock exchange? Because if we're doing fair market value on half-squeezed paint, I need to start appraising my dried-up cerulean blue like it's a rare coin. Next thing you know someone's gonna demand I weigh their tube of titanium white on a food scale. Honestly, you got the better deal just by getting rid of burnt sienna, that color's like the beige of art, nobody actually uses it. Last swap I did, I traded a crusty tube of dioxazine purple for a mystery color that turned out to be just dried glue.
