Realized I was storing my brushes wrong for 8 years after a guy at a supply swap in Ann Arbor pointed it out
I always jammed my brushes bristle down in a coffee can, figured that kept the tips nice and shaped. At a swap in Ann Arbor three weeks ago, this older woman was packing up a box of brushes and watched me drop mine in tip first. She just said, "you're bending the ferrule, hon," and pulled one out to show me the bristles had curled into a permanent hook. I went home and checked my 12 round brushes and sure enough, 9 of them were bent or splayed at the tip. The ferrule itself was fine on all of them, which is the part that confused me. So now I have a whole pile of decent brushes I wrecked and I feel dumb about it. What do you all use to store yours upright, a jar with the handles down or one of those brush rolls?
