Fixed a jammed Yashica with a rubber band once.

I read on a climbing forum that brass brushes are actually fine for rope as long as you go with the twist and don't press hard. Some guy over there said he's been doing it for years on his arb lines with no issues. Just keep an eye on it over the next few months I guess.

Sorting by port is the way. I do it by where the cable lands, not what it plugs into. So everything going to the TV lives together, everything going to the receiver lives together. When you add a new box you just match the bundle to the port and you're done, no untangling the whole wall. The velcro straps matter too, zip ties dig into the cables and you can't undo them without cutting. Get the roll of reusable ones, the kind you can pull tight and rip open again, way cheaper than buying singles. Only thing I'd add is label both ends of the run before you bundle, because once it's strapped you can't see which is which. Three months is nothing though, wait till you move a console or swap a device, that's when the port method pays off.
