A guy on a forum told me my Milky Way shots were too bright and now I'm torn on pushing the exposure
Back in March I posted a stack of the Milky Way from out past Joshua Tree and one commenter said my shot looked "washed out, the core should be darker so the dust lanes pop." I dropped my subs from 25 seconds to 15 and pulled the exposure down a full stop on the next trip, and honestly the dust lanes did show up way better. But now my shots look kind of flat to me, like I lost some of that glow I liked in the first place. So which is it, should a Milky Way shot look dark and moody or is a bright core fine?
Man, I feel this. I did the exact same thing after someone told me my core was blown out, dropped my subs and pulled exposure, and the dust lanes did pop but the shot lost that glow that made me love it in the first place. I've been splitting the difference lately, keeping the subs long but being gentler in editing so the core still has some life to it.
