Dropped $180 on a light pollution filter and it saved my Andromeda shots
Two years back I was shooting from my parents' place outside Columbus and every galaxy frame came out washed orange from the streetlights. I almost gave up on deep sky stuff until a guy at the local astronomy club told me to try a clip-in filter for my Canon, which ran me about $180. The noise dropped so much that I could actually pull out the dust lanes in M31 with just 40 minutes of stacked subs. Now I want to know, is it worth going up to a $300 narrowband set or should I just drive an hour out of town instead?
