I spent $200 on a 'premium' star tracker and it was a total waste

I bought the SkyGlide Pro last fall, thinking it would let me take longer exposures without star trails. The setup took over an hour, and the polar alignment was so finicky I never got it right. I tried it on three separate clear nights and every single shot came out blurrier than my basic tripod shots. Has anyone actually gotten good results with one of these, or are they just overhyped?

My rice cooker broke right before guests arrived

I was making a big pot of coconut rice to go with some curry for three friends coming over. The rice cooker just stopped working halfway through the cycle, leaving me with a pot of half-cooked, watery grains. I was in my kitchen in Austin, staring at this mess with about 45 minutes until everyone showed up. I ended up dumping the whole thing into a regular pot on the stove, cranked the heat, and kept stirring to try and save it. It got a little sticky on the bottom, but it actually turned out okay in the end. What's your go-to backup plan when a key piece of kitchen gear fails like that?

Saw a neighbor in my building using old milk jugs for her tomato plants

She had cut the tops off and poked holes in the bottom, then planted a single cherry tomato in each one. She told me she got the idea from a local gardening group in Portland. It made me realize how much free stuff we can reuse instead of buying pots. Has anyone else tried something like that with stuff from the recycling bin?

My pour over setup took a month to finally get right

Honestly, I thought dialing in my new V60 would be quick. I got a nice gooseneck kettle and a good grinder, but my coffee kept tasting sour or bitter. I watched so many videos and read guides, but nothing helped. The big issue was my water. I live in Phoenix and our tap water is really hard. I tried filtering it, but it still messed up the taste. It took me a month and buying a pack of Third Wave Water mineral packets to finally fix it. My morning cup is perfect now, but man, that was a long road. Has anyone else had to completely change their water to make their coffee taste good?

We used to start our game nights at 8 PM sharp, now we aim for 'whenever the pizza shows up'

The change happened after three weeks in a row where someone was stuck in traffic or finishing a work call. Now the rule is we don't roll dice until the delivery guy from Tony's gets his tip. Anyone else just build the start time around food now?

That time I used a bone folder for a non-book thing and it clicked

I was trying to smooth out a huge, stubborn wrinkle in a vinyl tablecloth for a party last Saturday. My usual plastic scraper was useless, so I grabbed a bone folder from my bench in a moment of frustration. It glided over the vinyl and got the crease out perfectly in about 2 minutes flat. It made me realize how many of our tools are just perfect for specific, controlled pressure. Anyone have a favorite 'wrong tool for the job' that actually worked great?

Serious question, is a $5 rotisserie chicken the best budget meal base or a trap?

I was at the grocery store and heard a mom tell her kid they were having 'chicken for three days' because of the $5 bird. It got me thinking. On one side, it's cooked, gives you meat for sandwiches, soup, and tacos, and saves energy. On the other side, maybe buying a whole raw chicken for $3 and roasting it yourself gives you more control and maybe more meat for the price. What's your take on the best way to go?

Can we talk about using ground-penetrating radar on a site in rural Kentucky?

We were stuck trying to find a pioneer homestead foundation without digging up the whole field, so our professor brought in a GPR unit from the university. After a day of scanning, we got clear subsurface images showing a rectangular stone structure exactly where the old maps said it should be. Has anyone else had success with GPR for locating early American settlements?

My clear window decals were a total fail this morning

I put up those expensive UV stickers last week, but a robin still smacked into my kitchen window in Chicago. It flew off after a minute, but now I'm questioning if any decal works without a full pattern. What's the most foolproof method you've actually seen stop hits?
