Dropped $220 on a light pollution filter for my DSLR and I still can't decide if it was worth it
Two sides here. One is that my backyard in Columbus is a Bortle 7 and without the filter my shots of Andromeda were just orange soup, so the filter at least gives me something to stack. The other side is that I could've driven 40 minutes out to darker sky for free and gotten better data than any filter gives me under city glow. I've shot the same target both ways and honestly the dark site wins, but the filter means I can image on a random Tuesday without planning a trip. So what's the call, is a filter a real fix or just a way to avoid the drive? Would love to hear from folks who've done both.
