inShowerthought: guy told me he charges for the diagnosis even when the fix takes 2 minutes
Flat fee saved me this year, plain and simple. I was doing the same thing, waving the fee when it was a loose wire or a clogged filter, and my wife finally asked why I was working for free half the time. Now the fee covers my drive and my time no matter what the job turns into, and nobody has pushed back once, same as your dishwasher lady.

inI finally stopped using a bone folder for everything
Took me way too long to figure this out too. I was burnishing a stack of glossy inkjet covers and every single one had these dull shiny streaks from my bone folder. Switched to a Teflon one and the marks just stopped. Now the bone folder lives in a drawer for leather and board work only. Twelve bucks is a steal, mine was closer to twenty online. Live and learn I guess.

inDitched the $60 cable sleeve kit after one day, back to zip ties
Those sleeve kits look so clean in the photos but nobody talks about how much of a pain they are when you need to change anything. I watched a YouTube video where a guy compared them to regular cable ties and he had the same problem, had to undo everything when his setup changed. The thing is our setups are never really done, you always add a new soundbar or move a light strip around. Zip ties and those little sticky clips let you just snip and restart in like five minutes instead of fighting with mesh tubing. Plus the sleeves love to catch dust and look nasty after a few months anyway. Cheap and simple wins every time for people who actually touch their gear.
