Just picked up a skill with rust converter, but the old hands here swear by cutting out every spot. Let's hear both sides!

My buddy tried that stuff on his old truck's frame. He coated everything, even the crusty leaf springs, thinking it was a magic fix. Looked okay for a bit, but it was a total mess of flaky paint and new rust bubbles by the next year. That project convinced me clean metal is the only way it really lasts.

Watch how a good rust encapsulator can work miracles! My cousin used one on his van's floor pans after just wire brushing the loose stuff. Two years later, still solid with no bubbles. The key is picking a product meant for direct use over rust, not just any paint. It bonds and stops the spread, buying you time for a proper fix later. For a daily driver, that's often all you need!
