Overheard a customer quoting a body shop's 5-day promise, my guy quoted them 8
Stopped for coffee Tuesday and heard a guy telling his buddy about a collision shop that swore his bumper would be done in 5 days, but that same shop quoted me 8 for a similar job last month. Made me wonder if they just tell everyone what they want to hear and sort it out later, which is exactly the kind of thing that ruins trust in this trade. Have you had customers walk because your honest timeline beat out a shop's fake rush promise?
Man, I gotta push back a little here. Shops quote different times for different cars all the time. A bumper job on a Honda Civic is not the same as a bumper job on a Tesla with sensors and cameras in it, so 5 days for one guy and 8 for you might just be two different jobs. And "overheard at a coffee shop" is about as reliable as a game of telephone, the buddy probably got the details wrong anyway. Some shops do overpromise, sure, but making it out like the whole trade is built on lies feels like a stretch. Trust gets wrecked by real bad work, not by a number you heard secondhand.
