The VIN inspection shortcut that saved me 3 days on a cross country move
I was shipping my old Honda from Austin to Portland last month and every broker I called wanted a full VIN inspection before they'd even quote me. Turns out a DMV certified VIN verification form from any local tag office works fine, cost me $18 and took 15 minutes instead of waiting for someone to come out and check the car. The trick is asking for the physical form, not just the digital record, because most dispatchers need the paper copy for their files. That one piece of paper got me a quote within 2 hours and the driver didn't even look under the hood when he picked it up. Has anyone else found that brokers accept alternate VIN checks if you just ask the right way?
