Warning: found 3 wire bundles in a Gulfstream last month that were chafed bare against a rib bracket
Pulled a panel on a G550 in Wichita last month during a 24 month check. Three separate bundles, all loom clamped to the same rib bracket, all rubbed through the loom and into the shield. Worst one was down to copper on two wires. Whole time I kept thinking about how this plane was flying like that for who knows how long.
I get it, routing to keep clear of structure takes longer. But a $0.40 standoff would have saved all of it. Now I peek behind every bracket I touch on a check.
What's your go to spot for finding chafing before it turns into a squawk? I'm mostly looking along ribs and floor beam edges but I know I'm missing places.
