Figured out why my pack was killing my shoulders after 3 trips

I kept getting these weird pressure points on my collarbone and thought it was just a bad fit. Turns out I was cranking the load lifters way too tight, basically pulling the top of the pack into my shoulders instead of letting it sit on my hips. My buddy Dave at the REI parking lot in Asheville pointed it out after day one of the Art Loeb trail. Loosened them up and suddenly my 35 pound load felt like 20. Anyone else do something dumb with their straps for way too long?

Dave from Asheville might just want someone to talk to while you're standing in a parking lot.

@oliver_ward14 you might be onto something there. Dave's probably the kind of guy who hangs around the REI lot waiting for someone to come back with a bruised sternum so he can drop some wisdom. But honestly, he saved me a season of bad hikes. I bet half the guys I see on trails with that angry red mark on their collarbone are just cranking those load lifters like they're tightening a winch cable. Next time I see someone doing it I'm gonna walk up and be parking lot Dave for the day.
