My GPS trail map went from hero to zero in 2 seasons

Last year I hiked the Eagle Ridge loop in Colorado using a free app and it kept me dead on trail the whole 12 miles. This spring I loaded the same route on the same phone and it had me bushwhacking through a creek for 40 minutes because the map data got corrupted. Turns out the app updated overnight and changed the trail markers without telling me, so the old breadcrumb path was garbage. I had to pull out my paper backup and laugh at how tech fails when you least expect it. Anyone else had an app update wreck a familiar route on them?

Man, that sucks but is it really worth all that? I mean, a 40 minute detour is annoying but you still made it out fine. Apps glitch, whatever, that's why you had the paper map. I feel like people act like tech failing is some huge betrayal when it's just... tech being tech.
