Swapping my 3lb sleeping bag for a 1.8lb quilt cut my pack weight by 1.5lbs on the Oregon section of the PCT
I hiked the Oregon stretch over 5 days and my shoulders stopped hurting on day 2 compared to my old setup. The quilt packed down to the size of a football and I slept warmer at Crater Lake than I ever did with the bag. Anyone else make the switch and notice the weight savings right away, or did it take a few trips to feel normal?
Went through the same thing on a trip through the Three Sisters a couple summers back. The first night in a quilt felt weird honestly, like I was gonna be cold all night, but I was fine and my pack felt so much lighter the next day. Took maybe two trips before I stopped thinking about it and just slept normal. What got me was how much room it freed up in my pack, not just the weight. Shoulders not hurting is the real win though, that stuff adds up mile after mile.
