Wasted $400 on a set of pre-finished doors that warped within two weeks of sitting in my shop

I stacked them flat with stickers like you're supposed to but the manufacturer didn't let them acclimate long enough before shipping and now I'm stuck fighting with the supplier for a refund while my client's timeline falls apart, has anyone else dealt with this from a big box supplier?

That one guy at the star party who told me my telescope was 'wrong'

I was out at a dark sky site near Moab last July, just setting up my 8 inch dob. This older dude walks over, looks at my rig, and says 'you know you're supposed to use a refractor for deep sky, right?' in this super condescending tone. I just laughed and said 'tell that to my Andromeda shots.' He walked off muttering. I still think about that sometimes. Anyone else run into the 'telescope police' at public viewing nights?

The guy at the gas station who swore the moon landing was filmed in his backyard shed

I was filling up my truck near Austin last Tuesday and this older dude just walks up and starts talking about how his uncle's neighbor had a buddy who worked on the 1969 moon landing as a set builder. He claimed they built a fake lunar surface in a shed in Bakersfield and that he saw the leftover props as a kid. I asked him for proof and he pointed at the moon and said look how flat it looks tonight, like it's painted on a backdrop. I just nodded and paid for my gas while he kept going about how NASA paid his neighbor's uncle $500 in cash to keep quiet. Has anyone else run into a random stranger with a conspiracy story that made you laugh but also wonder where they get this stuff?

Had a barista call out my 'fake working' routine and it stung

I was at this little spot in Austin called Brew & Code, grinding through my tickets around 2pm. The barista, Maria, just straight up asked if I was actually working or just pretending to avoid real life. She said she sees 5 people a day camped out with laptops who barely type 3 words an hour. It hit different because she was kind of right, I spend half my time staring at my screen thinking about nothing. Anybody else ever get called out like that by a coffee shop employee?

The before and after on my peace lily after 3 weeks of filtered water was wild

I switched to using water from my fridge filter instead of tap water and the new leaves came in way greener without any brown tips. Has anyone else seen that big of a difference just from changing water sources?

Warning: A friend's comment about my password manager setup made me switch everything

My buddy Mark caught me using the same master password for my Bitwarden vault that I used on a random forum from 2018. He pointed out that if that forum got breached, my whole vault was toast. I spent last weekend rotating all 47 of my stored logins and enabling a YubiKey for 2FA. Has anyone else had someone call out a lazy security habit that made you totally rethink your approach?

Thought Spider-Man 2099 was overhyped, now I get it

I was totally that guy who rolled my eyes at everyone calling Spider-Man 2099 the best alt-universe Spidey. Picked up the first trade from 1992 at a con last month for $8 and burned through it in one night. What finally sold me? The way Miguel's world feels like a real, broken future instead of just a gimmick. Anyone else sleep on a character for years and then flip completely?

Pro tip: I always thought cheap coal was fine until I tried that stuff from Tractor Supply

I been using whatever bagged coal I could find for years, figured it all burns the same right? Last month I grabbed a 40 pound bag of the anthracite from Tractor Supply in Peoria, and man, it threw way more heat and barely smoked. Lesson learned, the grade really matters for forge work. Anyone else notice a big difference between coal sources?

My dad told me to just use zipties. He was wrong.

Back in 2019 my dad came over to help with my desk setup. He saw the spaghetti mess behind my monitor and said just ziptie everything tight. So I did. Two weeks later I needed to swap out a dead USB cable. Had to cut every single ziptie. Ruined three cables in the process. Now I use velcro wraps and laugh about it. Anyone else get bad advice from an older relative about cable management?

Got chewed out by a lead mechanic at DAL after I missed a cracked oil line on walkaround

I was doing a preflight at the gate in Atlanta last month and he pointed out a hairline crack I'd totally glossed over on a 737 oil return line - now I carry a little LED pen light in my vest pocket and go over every inch of tubing with it before signing off. Anybody else have a moment where an old head showed you something you'd been missing for years?
