Late-night worm buffet saved my flock from the heat slump
After three days of 95 degree weather where my girls stopped laying and just sat around panting, I started tossing a handful of live mealworms into their shaded run at 9pm and they perked right up, so now I'm wondering if anyone else schedules their treats for after sundown during summer heat waves?
Our girls hit the same wall during a July stretch, and the frozen pea trick stopped working fast. Moving treats to dusk made a real difference, they perk up just enough to eat and settle before the heat builds again. Glad I am not the only one running a bug happy hour in the coop.
