PSA: I spent 2 years writing fantasy wrong before a beta reader fixed me

Wait wait wait, you mean you were writing for TWO YEARS without sensory details? lmao that's wild. I totally get the grocery list thing though, my first draft had characters walking into rooms and I'd just say "he looked around" like that means anything. A friend once told me my dialogue read like two robots exchanging information and I was so offended until I realized she was right - people don't talk like that, they scratch their necks and look away and trail off mid sentence. Now I have to physically act out my scenes to catch what my hands would actually be doing while I talk lol.

Dropped $120 on a thermal camera for my toolkit last year

Gotta disagree @martin.jamie, a good multimeter finds most stuff without needing to unbox the camera.

Serious question, I had to pick between a 12-foot roll and two 6-foot pieces for a long hallway job in a Phoenix split-level last Tuesday.

Accordion fold sounds way smarter than my method which was basically just praying and sweating.

Vent: Customer dropped off a Nikon F3 that was "just a little sticky"

1986 Ford F-250, first summer after I bought it. AC wasn't blowing cold so I figured it was just low on refrigerant. Pop the hood and there's a half-eaten chocolate bar melted all over the compressor clutch, wrapper and all. The guy who sold it to me said the only problem was a "sticky" clutch. Dried chocolate is basically glue once it bakes onto hot metal. Took me three hours with brake cleaner and a wire brush to get it clean enough to replace the compressor. Honey in a camera sounds like a whole other level of sticky though.

Hot take: spending $200 on a cat water fountain was either genius or a total scam

Total scam" is right... $200 for a water bowl is wild. My cat drinks out of a $10 ceramic dish from Target and he's fine.
