My neighbor's 10 year old asked why the eggs were different colors, made me rethink my whole setup
We were trading eggs last Saturday in Kalamazoo and her kid pointed at my marans eggs and asked if the brown ones were chocolate. I laughed it off but then realized I've been so focused on production numbers and feed ratios that I forgot these birds are just fun to have around. Since when did I start treating my flock like a spreadsheet instead of just watching them do their goofy chicken stuff, anyone else catch themselves doing that after a few years?
Kept a spreadsheet for years too until I realized the numbers never made me smile. Tracking feed and egg counts is fine, but the birds are the point, not the data.
