The city trimmed our street trees and now my flock is struggling with the heat.

I never paid much attention to shade in the chicken run until the city removed several large trees last month. With full sun all day, my hens started panting and their egg production dropped by half. It hit me that urban landscaping choices directly affect backyard poultry. I've since added a tarp for shade and more waterers, which has helped a bit.

Ever consider filing a formal request with the city arborist for replacement planting, maybe with a note about livestock welfare. It's wild how a parks department memo can wreck a microclimate. Did your neighbors with gardens or dogs notice a big change too, or is it just your coop that got baked?

Did you hear about that town that pushed for shade trees after their park got cleared? I read they had to get a bunch of signatures and show how it helped pets and gardens. Maybe your chicken coop situation could get similar attention if you frame it right.

My buddy's garden wilted after they cut down the oaks, so he started a petition.
