Was dead set against fermented feed until I tried it on my old hen
I thought fermenting feed was just extra work for no payoff, but my 5 year old hen was losing weight and not eating much. After 2 weeks on soaked feed she put on 150 grams and her comb got bright red again. Has anyone else seen big health changes with older birds?

Fermented feed sorted out my old rooster's sour crop in about a week. Just make sure you rinse the grain a few times before you start the soak, cuts down on the mold issues.

Gotta love how something that sounds like a science experiment turns into chicken magic overnight. Your hen probably thinks you finally learned how to cook. Mine did the same thing - went from looking like she was planning her funeral to bossing the younger birds around within a week on fermented feed. All that extra work for something that basically makes their food pre-digest itself. Pretty sure the sour crop thing works because the good bacteria in the ferment just outcompetes the bad stuff, but don't quote me on that - I'm not a chicken scientist, just someone who spent way too long scrubbing mold off grain buckets.
