Showerthought: I spent 6 months blaming my cheap finder scope for bad star alignment

I kept missing faint objects with my $40 telescope, thinking the finder scope was just junk from a clearance bin at a hobby shop in Tulsa. Turns out the finder scope was fine, but I had been bumping it every time I carried the setup outside, throwing off the alignment for 20 minutes each night. Has anyone else dealt with a sneaky loose screw ruining their viewing time?

I heard about a guy who spent a whole season blaming mount shake only to find a loose thumbscrew on his tripod was the real problem.

Tbh I found a loose screw on my eyepiece holder after three months of blaming bad focus.
