I was deep into a client call at a spot on South Congress when they unplugged my table for floor cleaning. My laptop died at 12% and I lost the connection. Now I carry a 20,000mAh Anker pack everywhere. Anyone else have a cafe power fail story?

PSA: I just read that the average drywall pro goes through about 2,500 pounds of joint compound a year

I was looking at some old invoices for a big apartment job we did last fall in Spokane, and it got me curious about our overall material use. I did some digging online and found a trade article that broke down average annual compound consumption. The number they threw out was 2,500 pounds per installer. At first I called BS, but then I did the math on my own truck. Between bedding tape, topping coats, and skim coats, I'm easily blowing through a 5-gallon pail every week or two. That's about 50 pounds a pail, so over 50 weeks, yeah, that tracks. It's a crazy amount of mud when you actually stop to think about it. Makes you realize how much of our work literally just vanishes into the wall. Anyone else ever run the numbers on their mud use and been surprised?

PSA: My view on chicken feed completely flipped after a vet visit

Three years ago in my old Raleigh yard, I was just grabbing whatever 50lb layer bag was cheapest. Last month, our vet pointed out how dull my hen's feathers were and suggested a specific brand with more protein. After switching, the difference in their energy and eggshell strength in just the last week has been HUGE. Anyone have a good alternative to Purina's Flock Raiser that won't break the bank?

Remember when we had to eyeball the load chart on the cab wall?

Back in '05 on a Manitowoc 4100, I'd be squinting at that faded plastic sheet trying to figure radius. Now my phone pulls up the exact digital chart in seconds, which is wild. Anyone else miss the old way even though the new way is way faster?

Finally got my first 1000 upvotes on a question about car battery myths

I see so many people asking if you need to disconnect the battery before charging it, but that's only for old chargers. Modern smart chargers are fine to leave connected, which I confirmed with the manual for my NOCO Genius 5. What's a common thing you've seen people get wrong in your area?

Our group's vote on the next book totally fell apart last night

We were supposed to pick between a long sci-fi novel and a short story collection. I mean, we had a simple show of hands planned. But then someone brought up a third option right before the vote, and it just split everyone. It took over an hour of arguing before we gave up and decided to take a week off. Has your club ever had a vote go completely sideways like that?

Tried to give my hens a yogurt treat and they turned into tiny feathered artists

I mixed some plain yogurt with their feed in a shallow pan, thinking they'd peck at it. Instead, they stepped in it and tracked blueberry-stained footprints all over my white coop walls. What's the weirdest thing your flock has done with a simple treat?

My wife laughed when I tried to fix a wobbly table leg with a piece of cardboard

Our old kitchen table had one leg that was a good quarter inch shorter than the others, and I didn't have any wood shims handy. I folded up a section from a cereal box, wedged it under the short leg, and it's been perfectly level for three months now. Has anyone else used something totally silly for a quick fix that actually held up?

Changed my mind about using a cold ladle for a quick patch job

I was working a night shift at the old Midvale plant, and we had a small break in a green sand mold for a gear blank. Figured I could just use a cold ladle to pour a quick fix instead of heating a fresh one. The metal froze halfway down the sprue and made a way bigger mess. Had to stop the line, break out the whole section, and re-ram. Anyone else learned this the hard way with a 'quick' fix?

I finally got my dad to stop reusing his old passwords after a close call

About six months ago, his main email got a weird login alert from a city we've never been to, and we spent a whole afternoon resetting everything.
