My $40 goodwill projector died 20 minutes into The Room
Picked up a used projector last Saturday for a bad movie night with some friends. We set up in the backyard, got the popcorn going, and it just shut off 20 minutes in. No warning, no error light, nothing. Turns out the bulb was on its last legs and the unit had a thermal cutoff that kicked in. We ended up watching the rest on a laptop propped on a cooler with three people huddled around it. Honestly? Might have been funnier that way. Has anyone else had a setup fail mid-movie and still had a great night, or was it just a total bust?

Read somewhere that projectors with thermal shutoffs are actually super common in older models, the cooling fans just wear out over time. Sounds like your lamp was toast anyway, so the cutoff probably saved the whole unit from melting. Laptop on a cooler is a classic move though, those little screens somehow make bad movies hit different. The Room is already a group screaming experience, so honestly you probably dodged a boringly clear picture.
