Vent: my go-to bad movie theater switched to all-digital and lost the charm
I used to hit the old Cineplex on 82nd in Portland every Friday for their midnight showings, the film reel would skip and crackle and honestly added to the fun. Then last spring they went fully digital, no more splices or weird audio drops, just clean 4K that makes every crappy CGI explosion look too real. Now the screen is 15 feet wider but the crowd energy died, nobody boos or laughs at the dumb parts like before. Anyone else feel like the imperfections were the best part of a bad movie night, or am I just nostalgic for scratched prints and blown speakers?
And here I thought 4K was supposed to be an upgrade. Turns out nothing kills a good bad movie night faster than a screen so sharp you can actually see how fake the rubber shark looks. Half the fun was squinting through the grain and blaming the projector when the audio cut out during the big speech. Bring back the guy who clearly spliced the reels with masking tape and prayers.
