My cake layers were always uneven until I tried this pan trick

I used to just pour batter in and hope for the best. Now I weigh the batter for each pan, and every layer comes out the same height. It's a simple step that makes decorating so much easier.

Weighing batter seems like pointless extra work. A little unevenness makes homemade cakes look more authentic. Just eyeball it and call it a day.

Is it really that big of a deal if cake layers are a bit off? They all get eaten in the end. I kind of agree that stressing over perfect layers takes the fun out of baking. A homemade cake should just taste good, it doesn't need to look like it came from a store. Seems like a lot of effort for something nobody will notice once it's sliced.

You're right that taste is what really counts, but getting layers even isn't just for looks. If one layer is thicker, it can throw off the balance when you frost it, and slices might be lopsided. I used to eyeball it too, but a quick weigh with a kitchen scale makes it so much easier, trust me lol. It doesn't have to be perfect, but a little effort keeps things from leaning like the Tower of Pisa. At the end of the day, as long as it's yummy, who cares, but even layers do make a difference.
