My wife said to try a little vinegar in my pie crust dough

I was skeptical, but adding just a teaspoon to the ice water made the pastry so much easier to work with and flakier. Has anyone else tried this trick with different types of vinegar?

Actually, my grandma always swore by a splash of vinegar in her pie dough, but she used it for cleaning windows too. She'd mix it with water in a spray bottle and the glass would be spotless. I tried it last spring and it worked way better than the store bought stuff I had. Kind of funny how one bottle in the kitchen has so many uses.

That's a neat tip about the windows. Does the type of vinegar matter for cleaning, or is plain white vinegar the best for that? I'm curious if the apple cider vinegar trick for a sweeter crust works with fruit pies or if it's better for savory ones.

Oh wow, I use apple cider vinegar in mine for a slightly sweeter flavor.
