Grandma told me to chill the butter before pie crusts and I ignored her for years
I spent 15 years making soggy crusts until I finally froze the butter like she said and my apple pie came out flaky for the first time at Thanksgiving. Who else had a relative give baking advice that took them way too long to actually listen to?

Lmao "chill the butter" sounds so innocent but really grandma was out here handing you the cheat code to life and you were like "nah I'll just suffer with my sad crusts instead". I swear older generations love watching us learn things the hard way. My aunt told me to use ice water not tap water for pie dough and I thought she was being dramatic until I made a crust that actually held together instead of crumbling into a greasy mess. Now I'm the annoying person who freezes everything including my damn rolling pin like some kind of pastry lunatic.
