My sourdough starter died after 3 months because I put it next to my router
Three months ago I moved my sourdough starter to a shelf near my wifi router in my Austin apartment. Big mistake. The thing was bubbling great for weeks, then it just went flat and smelled like nail polish. I fed it every day, same flour, same water from the tap. I couldn't figure out what changed until my buddy who bakes at a bakery on South Congress asked where I kept it. He said the router puts off just enough heat to mess with the wild yeast. I moved it to the top of my fridge and within 4 days it was doubling again. Lost about $15 in flour testing this out. Now I keep a backup jar in the back of the pantry just in case. Anyone else had a starter go weird from something dumb like this?
