I finally figured out my balcony tomatoes were doomed by one dumb watering habit
I used to water my two cherry tomato pots on the balcony every single morning, a full liter each, rain or shine, because that felt like the "right" thing to do. Then in July I noticed the leaves going yellow and the soil was still soaked at the bottom of the pot even when the top looked dry. Stuck my finger down about three inches and it was basically mud, so I was drowning the roots while patting myself on the back for being consistent. So here's my question: is it better to water on a schedule you can stick to, or to only water when you actually check the soil first? I've switched to the check-first method for about a week now and I keep second-guessing it, so I want to hear what works for other balcony growers.
