The tomatoes I grew this summer vs my first balcony crop 6 years ago? Night and day.

Back then I just grabbed whatever soil and a random pot, got like 3 sad cherry tomatoes all summer. This year I used a self-watering planter ($25) and proper potting mix, and I'm pulling in a handful every other day. Has anyone else noticed a huge jump in yield just from switching to better containers?

Wait 3 cherry tomatoes all summer?? That is absolutely brutal lmao. A whole season of watering and babying those plants just to get a snack basically. I would've given up right then and there. The self-watering planter game is real though, I switched to one last year and the roots go so much deeper without me forgetting to water for three days straight. Its wild how much of a difference just the pot makes, not even talking about soil quality yet.

That first year I treated my tomato plant like a low maintenance houseplant (spoiler: they're not). My sad little balcony produced exactly four cherry tomatoes and I celebrated like I'd won a gardening award. Self-watering planters really are the cheat code for people like me who forget plants exist sometimes.
