Tried clipper-over-comb vs freehand for bald fades and one is way faster
Been cutting for about 5 years now and I always did my bald fades with clipper-over-comb on the transition. Last week a customer came in who gets his cut every 10 days so I wanted to try something different. Used freehand with just the clipper and my eye on the second half of his head. Honestly it came out just as clean and I saved a good 10 minutes off the whole cut. Customer didn't notice any difference either. Has anyone else switched and found it works better or am I missing something?

Ten years in for me and I switched to freehand about two years ago... never looked back. Once you get good at reading the head and keeping a steady hand it's just as clean and way faster. Feels like clipper-over-comb is just adding extra steps when you don't really need them.

My buddy tried freehand for like six months before he switched back to clipper-over-comb cause his fades kept coming out uneven. I mean, idk, maybe it depends on the head shape or hair type or something but it's not like one is just objectively better. Is it really worth all that practice for something that might save you a couple minutes?
