Tried to fix a squeaky barber chair with WD-40, spent 4 days ordering the wrong parts

Chairs been squeaking for weeks, customers keep flinching every time I lower it. I figured a quick spray would do it. Nope. Turns out the gas lift was shot, not the hinges. Ordered a replacement lift off Amazon, got one for the wrong chair model, my chair is a 2004 Belmont and the part was for a newer model. Returned it, ordered again, third time was the charm but now I know way too much about chair hydraulics. Anyone else ever go down a rabbit hole fixing a chair that should have just been left alone?

Spent 3 hours on a zero fade that should've taken 45 minutes

Had a client come in last Thursday wanting a skin fade with a hard part, but his hair was way thicker than what I usually work with and the clippers kept snagging on the cowlick near his crown. I used to freehand everything with my Andis Masters, no guards, just going off feel and it was a mess half the time. Switched to clipper over comb about 3 years ago after a client in Austin complained about choppy layers, and it took me a solid 6 months to trust it. Found a trick to fix my clippers mid haircut without stopping

I was halfway through a fade last Tuesday and my Wahl clippers started bogging down bad. I tried the usual oil and it still was sluggish. Then I remembered an old barber told me to spray some coolant on the blades between cuts... it actually smoothed everything out instantly and I finished the fade clean. Anybody else use coolant spray like that or am I behind the times?

When I started cutting out of my garage last year I figured any clipper would do the job. Picked up a cheap Wahl from the drugstore for $40 and within 3 months the blade was pulling and the motor was screaming. Swapped to a Magic Clip at $200 and its night and day difference even on thick heads of hair. Anyone else burn through a cheap clipper before finally spending real money?

I was doing a number 2 blend on this 8 year old boy, and about halfway through the fade section my clipper blade got so hot it actually made him flinch. I had to stop, ice down the blade for 5 minutes, and finish with a backup clipper I usually only use for dry cuts. Has anyone else had a blade overheat like that on a busy afternoon?

I've been struggling for months with getting a smooth blend on the sides of darker hair, especially when going from a 0 to a 2 guard. I usually do the clipper over comb thing but it always left these little lines that I had to go back and fix. Then last Wednesday, one of the older barbers at my shop said to try using a 1.5 guard on an angle and just flick out at the end instead of going straight in. I tried it on a regular client of mine, this guy Mike who's super picky about his cut, and the fade came out way cleaner with almost no touch up needed. He even said it felt smoother than usual. I'm not sure if this is some big secret but it saved me a good 10 minutes on that cut. Anybody else use a different guard angle like that or is it just me?

I've been running a shop in Tucson for 8 years and I keep going back to my Wahl Seniors over the Andis Masters. Yeah the Masters feel solid and have that metal housing, but the Wahl adjusts better for different hair types without swapping blades. I reblade my Seniors maybe twice a year versus every 3 months on the Andis. Anyone else find the Wahl holds up longer between service intervals?

Been cutting for about 5 years now and I always did my bald fades with clipper-over-comb on the transition. Last week a customer came in who gets his cut every 10 days so I wanted to try something different. Used freehand with just the clipper and my eye on the second half of his head. Honestly it came out just as clean and I saved a good 10 minutes off the whole cut. Customer didn't notice any difference either. Has anyone else switched and found it works better or am I missing something?

I swear my Stihl trimmer was designed by a sadist. Tried swapping the line on my FS 55 today and it took me almost 2 hours to get that stupid bump head apart. Had to watch three YouTube videos and finally used a flathead screwdriver to pry the thing open. Anyone else swear at their equipment for way longer than the actual job takes?
