Rant: GOG vs Steam sales on older games... not even close

I spent last weekend comparing deals on GOG and Steam for some 90s RPGs and point-and-click adventures. Steam had Fallout 1 for like $2.50, but GOG had it for the same price and it actually ran without me having to mess with config files for an hour. That happened with three different games I tried on Steam - they just crashed or had weird resolution issues. On GOG everything booted right up, no tinkering needed. The trade-off is Steam has way more stuff on sale at once, but GOG's selection feels more curated for old hardware. Has anyone else noticed GOG's versions just work better out of the box for this stuff?

Actually GOG has more games than people realize, their catalog is bigger than the curated image suggests. Steam's sales are still wild but GOG's pre-patched stuff saves a ton of headache for old RPGs especially.
