That conversation with a buddy about free games got in my head

Was talking to my friend Dave last night about my backlog. He said he hasn't bought a game in over two years because he just plays whatever Epic gives away or what's on Game Pass. I told him I still like hunting for $5 deals on Steam but he said I'm just spending money on stuff I'll never play. It hit different because I looked at my library and yeah, I have like 60 games I paid for that are still untouched. Waste of cash maybe.

My buddy Tom used to brag that he had over 200 untouched Steam games. Then he did the math on what he spent for them during sales and realized it was close to $800 over five years. He said the worst part was seeing games he bought for $5 that later showed up for free on Epic. Now he just checks Epic, Prime Gaming, and Game Pass before buying anything. He still buys stuff but way less, and he actually plays what he gets now.

Does he ever regret not just waiting on those? I feel like so many of us have been there with the whole "but it's on sale!" trap, it's kind of wild when you actually add it all up.
