Swore cable ties were fine for 3 years until my buddy's cat yanked his monitor off the desk
Last month my buddy Jake texted me a photo of his monitor face down on the floor at his place in Denver, and the culprit was his cat sprinting through a loose loop of cables behind his desk. I had been using cable ties for 3 years because they were cheap and I never had a problem, so I figured everyone warning me about strain relief was just being picky. Seeing his $300 screen crack from a 6 pound cat made me actually think about what happens when something pulls on a tied bundle instead of a velcro strap that gives way. Two weeks ago I spent $12 on a roll of velcro tape and redid the whole back of my desk in about 20 minutes, and nothing has moved since. The velcro lets cables shift a little without yanking the ports, which is the whole point I missed for so long. Anyone else switch away from zip ties after one bad moment, or do you still run them and just keep the loops slack?
