The monitor arm I bought in March just broke my desk clamp for the 3rd time
Picked up a cheap gas spring arm off Amazon for $47 back in March. First clamp cracked my desk edge in May. Replaced it with a steel plate, that bent. Now the tightening bolt stripped out completely. Took me until yesterday to realize the arm itself was slightly too heavy for the clamp design. Should've just measured my desk thickness and bought the heavy duty version from the start. Anyone else had a mount fail because you didn't check the weight rating before buying?

Gotta say though, the weight rating probably wasn't the real issue. Most of those cheap clamps are rated for way more than a 47 dollar arm can actually put out, the problem is usually the desk surface itself. I had a similar thing happen where the clamp was fine on paper but my desk was just too soft, particle board or something, and it kept crushing no matter what I did. A steel plate helps but only if you spread the load right, bending it means the pressure was crazy uneven.
