Rant: got told by a 9 year old that my buckets were useless and she was kinda right
Was out at Ocean Beach in SF last Saturday with about 15 other volunteers and this kid, maybe 9, watched me sort glass into one bucket and plastic into another. She said the glass and plastic both end up in the same truck anyway so why bother. I asked the crew lead and he said she was mostly correct, the city sorts it again at the facility and mixed bags actually move faster. Took us 3 hours to fill 11 bags and I spent half that time sorting for no reason. Now I just keep one bag for trash and one for recyclables and we finished the same stretch in 90 minutes last week. Has anyone actually checked with their local waste hauler on this, because I feel dumb for all the sorting I did before.
