Pro tip: use a metal coat hanger to fish shifter cable through old frames
Was re-cabling a 1980s frame yesterday and the liner was shot, but after 3 tries with the plastic puller I bent a hanger into a hook and got it through in about 20 minutes, has anyone else got a cheap trick for stubborn internal routing?
A rare earth magnet on a telescopic wand saved me on a full-suspension frame where the cable got stuck halfway. Just taped the cable end to the magnet and guided it through from the other side with a second magnet. Cheapest and most reliable trick I've found for those impossible bends, way better than fishing blindly.
