Shop owner told me he fires guys who torque by feel, and now I'm rethinking my whole bench setup
He said he had a guy strip 3 carbon seat clamps in one week and that's what did it. I've been setting bolts by hand for 11 years and never had a comeback, but now I'm second guessing every stem I touch. Do you all actually use a torque wrench on every bolt, or just the carbon stuff?
Started clicking my wrench on everything after reading that, even water bottle bolts. Thing is, the carbon stuff is where feel gets you in trouble because you can't hear it start to give like you can with steel. Torque wrench on carbon, feel on the rest is probably fine, but you gotta actually check your wrench once in a while or you're just trusting a number that might be off by 30%.
