Rear rack bolt snapped 2 blocks from my office and my laptop bag went flying
Riding into work on Tuesday, I hit a pothole on 5th Street and heard a crack, then my whole rear rack dropped and my pannier with my laptop slid across the asphalt. One of the two bolts holding the rack to the frame had been loose for weeks and I kept telling myself I would tighten it later. The bag survived but the rack arm bent bad enough that I had to carry everything on my back the rest of the ride. Now I am paranoid about every rattle my bike makes. What do you all do to keep rack bolts from working themselves loose, threadlocker or just checking them every week?
Checking them every week is fine but threadlocker actually fixes the problem instead of just watching for it. Blue Loctite on rack bolts is a one time fix, way less hassle than playing mechanic every Sunday.
