The $45 rain cape that finally got me to stop fighting my fenders
Six months ago I bought one of those long waterproof poncho things from a shop in Portland. I ride 8 miles each way and the fenders never quite stopped the spray on my legs. The cape covers the handlebars and hangs past my knees. First heavy rain test was last Tuesday and I showed up almost dry. Downsides are the flapping noise and catching wind on bridges. Has anyone else tried these or do you stick with the jacket and pants combo?

Think about how many things we all own that are basically compromises. We spend years adjusting stuff, buying extra gear, and just accepting that part of the experience will always suck. The fenders are still on my bike but honestly they're just decoration now. It's the same with umbrellas that flip inside out or winter coats that are too bulky for the car. We keep trying to patch the problem instead of just changing the whole approach. The cape is dumb looking and loud but it actually solves the real issue. Sometimes the simplest weird solution beats all the fancy engineering.
