TIL my "waterproof" pannier bags are NOT waterproof after a 3 mile ride in a downpour

Spent $60 on these fancy Ortlieb knockoffs on Facebook Marketplace and my laptop bag was SOAKED through by the time I got to work. Is there a spray or coating that actually works to seal up cheap panniers, or should I just save up for the real deal?

Spent $40 on "waterproof" ones from Amazon and same thing happened to me.

Learned that lesson too, @the_richard - my "waterproof" boots turned out to be "water resistant until you actually step in a puddle" boots.
