I finally gave up on that 47 episode fantasy series after 3 tries

Made it to episode 12 last Tuesday, realized I was scrolling my phone through every scene and couldn't name a single character, so I switched to a 6 episode British crime show instead, does anyone else have a strict 10 episode rule before they bail on a slow burn?

Does your rule change when the show has a huge fan base? I ask because those 47 episode shows usually get praised to the moon, and it is easy to feel like you are the problem instead of the show. After a while I decided that if I need a chart to keep track of who is who, the writers did not do their job.
