Warning: hit 11 strikes in one month on my kitchen slider before I figured out the glare was the problem
I keep a little tally sheet by the back door for strikes on the big kitchen slider, mostly out of guilt, and after August it read 11. Eight of those were robins in the late afternoon, all hitting the same upper pane within about an hour of each other. Turned out the sun was bouncing off that glass at a low angle and making it look like open sky, so I stuck a strip of frosted tape across the middle and moved the feeder 4 feet closer. Two weeks in, not a single strike on that pane since. Does the tape look bad to anyone else's spouse, or is that just mine?
