Coal vs. propane for a weekend hobbyist, propane won by a mile

After 6 months of fighting with coal clinker and uneven heat, I finally rented a propane forge for a Sunday and got cleaner welds in 2 hours than my last month of coal. The temperature control is just so much easier to dial in, especially for small knife blanks. Anyone else switch fuels and never look back, or am I just bad at managing a coal fire?

Propane's cleaner, but coal heats bigger stock way faster, so don't toss it yet.
